Integrated Learning
At Sungate all children are met and supported within a social, mixed age, mixed ability learning environment. Experienced teachers bring a high level of expertise and training in special education, curative education, and occupational therapy to each interaction with the children. Our environment is thoughtfuly designed to nuture health, vitality, strength and meaningful engagement so that all children thrive within a community.
The Vitality of the Arts
Learning through active engagement with arts such as painting, drawing, music and drama makes content accessible and nurturing. Children are enlivened as they relate in a meaningful way to lesson content.
Social Support and Community Integration
There is no expectation for learners to be 'on the same level.’ Everyone is working individaully, and meeting each other cooperatively through shared tasks and projects. Each person has a valued part to play. Children learn from each other, and help each other.
Camphill Partners
SunGate partners with The Camphill Academy to provide internships to students of curative education. Our interns engage in ongoing training, study and reflection as they provide 1:1 support to students with learning needs. Financial contributions for 1:1 support are provided by individual families, and through The Mackey Support Fund.
Healthy Rhythms
Our day alternates between periods of active movement and quiet thinking. Children hike, play and work outdoors in the morning before sitting, listening, and thinking for their main lessons.
Expert Facilitation
Teachers at SunGate work collaboratively through a child study process to form a diagnostic picture of each child, create individualized programming within a social setting, and partner with parents to surround the child with shared relational approaches.
Embedded Therapy
Our pedagogy recognizes movement as a foundation for learning for all children. Specialists work with a deep know;edge of occupational therapy and curative movement to address individual needs within a social context. Therapeurtic eurythmy is offered to all children.
